the system. it sure has. scranton at 26. below freezing in new york city at 31. just to let you know, it's not over yet. a brand new storm system set up these winter weather advisories for pennsylvania and into new york, washington, d.c., and the mountains of virginia. you can see also ohio slammed again after so much snow from the first system. so the way it's going to play out, saturday into sunday, this system is likely going to bring heavier snow to areas of northern pennsylvania in terms of snowfall totals. it's not going to be as big of a snowmaker or a blizzard maker from what we saw last time, but it will produce strong snowfall through central connecticut and rhode island. new england, you know winters can be long. winter is not officially -- is officially here, we are looking at a slamming start to the season. across the southeast, temperatures are also very cold. we have not warmed up in atlanta. we're at 31 degrees. the moisture coming into the south will come in at a time where temperatures are likely to be milder. we are not looking at snow accumulation in the south if that

a great time everyone. >> hello everyone. at this hour we are following breaking news out of kansas city, missouri a 25 year old nfl player was involved in two shootings. the nfl stadium is in lock down. we'll go live to elizabeth. >> yeah, uma, we know that 25 year old kansas city chiefs player died of a self inflected gunshot. police have not released the name because the incident is under investigation. they do say the shootings are connected and happened within five miles was each other. first neighborhood in kansas city . the second shooting happened in the teams training facility near the stadium which is why the facility was on lock down and continues to be on lock down. here is a spokesperson from the police department. listen. >> when we arrived, a lady came out and said her daughter was shot by her boyfriend several times inside of the residence. we got a call in regard to the person in the parking lot with a handgun. the black man talked to the coaches out in the parking lot and as officers pulled up and they heard the gunshot and the individual took his own life. >> we have h

there on new year's receive in. >> of course. it's new year's eve in new york city. but the snow will be gone by then. it is a snowstorm nonetheless and the roads and anyone traveling in the northeast will run into some issues. we've already seen some reports of pretty bad road conditions across pennsylvania and new york state. that's where the snow has been heaviest. in new york right now it's just pretty at this point. it hasn't really made a mess of the roadways. the storm is going to take this track, moving in from the mid-atlantic and then off the coast of cape cod, massachusetts. that's going to keep the heaviest of the snow right in that area in pink from boston right back into hartford. that's where we're going to see our heaviest snow. everywhere elsewhere we have those winter weather advisories we are going to get some snow but about 1 to 3 inches. so it's totally manageable. but any snow on the roads obviously does cause some issues. you see on the storm tracker here where the shades of blue are showing up across new york, back into eastern pennsylvania, even in central new jersey.

"newsroom" starts right now. good morning, everybody. i'm ted rowlands in for carol costello today. lansing, michigan, is the target of a protest. the republicans are trying to push through a right to work bill that could severely hurt organized labor in the state. the governor promises to sign the bill as soon as it hits his desk which could be within hours. the new legislation bars requiring union dues as a condition of employment. it's already on the books in 23 other states. police and firefighters would be exempt, however. here is a look at the right to work nation states. if governor snyder signs this bill in michigan as expected, michigan would be the most heavily unionized right to work state in the country. alison kosik, describe what's happening now. demonstrators are starting to gather outside of the capitol. are they going to be allowed inside as this historic legislation is passed? >> reporter: they are inside right now as well as outside, so behind me you've got several hundred protesters that

and it's colder behind this storm system across the midwest, 20 in minneapolis and teens in rapid city. we have another storm we're tracking as it heads eastbound the next couple days. our current snowstorm producing more snow across maine. reports of over a foot across the many areas in new england and that snow still coming down. coastal areas dealing with rainfall an winds over 30, 40 miles an hour especially overnight. i her the wind howling. we have winter storm warnings for upstate new york, vermont, new hampshire and maine. and many of these warnings are in effect until early tomorrow morning because that wind, even after the snow is done, the wind will continue to blow snow around and produce white house in -- whiteout conditions. many places over a foot of snow on top of what we have on the ground. we're looking at another storm impact thing the midwest and areas hit hard by tornadoes. the storm system had severe weather with it, unusual for december in alabama, mississippi and the next storm is going to produce thunderstorms and areas of rain and basically heading northeast,

and heavy rain through the big cities of the northeast and soon new england. it's a rough morning for the commute. winds just gusted to 43 at jfk airport. you can imagine at the airports especially from new york city, philadelphia and northwards will have the most significant delays and cancellations on this friday. thankfully it's just rain. we're not really dealing with igs ice or snow in new england. it's a different story in the great lakes. it's a winter wonderland anywhere in the state of michigan. it snowed hard last night, northern indiana and much of the state of ohio right now is seeing snow. careful driving, interstate 70 going across the lower portions of the great lakes and the ohio valley. and the winds are gusting, too. we probably have a little bit of blowing and drifting snow in indiana, michigan and ohio. and again, those winds this morning around new york city could get as high as 60 miles per hour. the worst of it coming in the next three hours. so keep that in mind as you're driving on the roads or doing anything outdoors. as far as snowfall goes, over the nex
